Security supports campus leadership’s efforts on Tableau

The Information Security Office partnered with various teams from April to July 2019 to help design, guide and direct the architecture for the first production implementation of Tableau in the cloud as a shared service.

The Information Security Office provided a balanced approach of best practices, frameworks, security risk mitigation and options to compensate when optimal controls were not feasible to be incorporated.

The Information Security Office designed Tableau to support working securely with sensitive data. For example, one of the specific solutions that were delivered was a new production service, a site-to-site VPN that is connected to Amazon Web Services by ITS’ Palo Alto Networks enterprise firewall. This provides for the secure transmission of data between on-premises infrastructure and Tableau in the cloud.

Protecting the integrity of this data both at rest and in transmission was one of the Information Security Office’s priorities for the implementation.
